A future world needs a future internet. And in any event, I’m a technological kind of guy, so a little technology is in order—something creative, something like the Matrix.
Oops. Not the Matrix. That’s just so last week. Something like the Matrix, but a little less woo-woo. A little more pragmatic.
The internet exists today. It’s constantly evolving, driving change in commerce, social relationships, education, geopolitics, warfare, even spirituality. It’s changing the balance of power, advantaging individuals and virtual communities, and disadvantaging monolithic organizations of all stripes (despite their efforts to control it).
I decided to call it the Grid.
The Grid is the future internet converged with a future disaggregated power generation infrastructure. Electronics need power and power generation must distribute to co-locate with the elements of the Grid that it supports.
Everything will be connected, every element self-sufficient, elements locally (in time and/or space) self-synchronized, the whole self-healing, self-organized, and constantly changing. Given enough independent elements—a few quadrillion or so—order not entropy could emerge. Some might even say that consciousness will emerge.
So now I have the Grid. How to talk to it? Should Jill “jack in?” No pun intended.
Nah, I have something more creative in mind …
