This web site is owned and operated by Riff the Razzle, LLC (“we”, “our” “us”). It is administered by Douglas Barton, author of Riff the Razzle, to promote the book. The site will also be used to discuss technology topics of general concern, in particular, privacy and security.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it
We value our visitors’ privacy. We only collect data required to support site operations and to enable visitors to comment on posts and subscribe to our newsletter.
If you post a comment on the site, we collect your name and email address to support spam detection. Your name is displayed on the site with your comment. Your email address is not shown.
If you contact the administrator or subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address.
We may collect other information that cannot be readily used to identify you, such as the domain name and IP address of your computer. Comments
When you leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name and email address in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

Who we share your data with
We store your data on servers provided by a third-party hosting vendor with whom we have contracted. A second third-party service maintains backups of the site.
If you chose to contact the administrator of the site using the Contact Me page or the administrator’s email address directly, your email will be stored on a third-party email service. A separate third-party service is used to manage subscriptions to the site newsletter to include notifications of new content.
Access to the site is monitored by several third-party services to provide cybersecurity protection and spam reduction.
We do not otherwise provide your data to any third-party.
Please note that this privacy policy does not govern the collection and use of information by companies that we does not control, nor by individuals not employed or managed by us. If you visit a web site that we mention or link to, be sure to review its privacy policy before providing the site with information.
What third parties we receive data from
This web site does not receive data about individual users from third parties.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata (user name and email address) are retained indefinitely. If you subscribe to the site newsletter, your name and email address are stored with a third-party service until you unsubscribe from the newsletter. If you contact the administrator, your email is retained until your comments are dispositioned and then the email is deleted.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments on the site, you can request that we delete your comments and associated metadata. This does not include any information we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy is effective 06/13/2023. We reserve the right to change this privacy policy as we deem necessary or appropriate because of legal compliance requirements or changes in our business practices. If you have provided us with an email address, we will endeavor to notify you, by email to that address, of any material change to how we will use personally identifiable information.
